The first optimization case study comprised a simply supported prestressed slab, measuring 12*0.4*1.2 m (l*h*w). Prestressing were applied to the model as single point forces acting at the ends.
The resulting topology, in which the original volume is reduced by 60%,
generates a branching structure at the ends, leading the tension forces into the deck element. At the middle, where the bending moment is at its highest, the geometry diverges again, creating a split. Assembling several elements to form a loft structure, the shapes catches the light in complex
patterns. A sinuate morphology is unveiled, exposing the flow of forces within in the shape to directly to the eyes of the observer.
