The second optimization case study was a simply supported prestressed beam, measuring 12 x 1.2 x 0.4 (l*h*w) m. The beam was modelled with a 150 mm nondesign frame to ensure its compatibility with existing prefab element systems. The resulting topology materializes in its
appearance the forces acting within the the beam: in the middle - where shear forces are low – a void is created. The low shear forces are resisted by the compression arch around the void. Around the compression the increasing shear forces are resisted by a lattice
formation. The resulting topology show great resemblance to the biological morphology of human bone structures, which also represents a structural shape, in which the minimum amount of calcium creates a bone with maximum stiffness.
